Hello Everyone,
The end of 2022 is nigh! Looking back, what are you most grateful for? What did 2022 teach you about YOU?
For me, 2022 was a year of growth — I started this platform to elevate industry leaders’ stories about how they’re doing good while doing well. This begs for a separate post.
Not to digress from the topic at hand, I had a chance to sit down and speak with a friend and former colleague, Harper Spero about her entrepreneurial journey since the time we worked together at Buddy Media in 2010. After leaving Buddy Media Harper made additional career stops but it was around 2014 that she founded her own business as a business coach working with solo entrepreneurs and small business clients.
While running her coaching business, Harper set out to create content and community around invisible illnesses. As someone who has an invisible illness, she wasn’t able to find content around her condition. So in 2018, she founded the Made Visible podcast where she brought on guests to discuss their invisible illness and life navigating their condition.
“Back in 2018, I launched a podcast called Made Visible where I interviewed people who are living with invisible illnesses or their family members, caregivers, doctors, healers, and people who started businesses all related to invisible illness. I have a rare immune deficiency, and I always felt really isolated, and alone in navigating that. So I decided to create the content that I couldn't find online. So I launched that podcast back in 2018. I put it to rest in 2020, after a hundred episodes, and I'm bringing it back in early 2023.” Made Visible Creator & Host, Harper Spero
In addition to creating and hosting the Made Visible podcast, Harper has been facilitating (in her words) writing classes for people with invisible illnesses to connect with one another while using writing as a therapeutic outlet.
You can hear from this conversation with Harper that she’s very adept at accepting and working through change or in startup parlance ‘pivoting.’ As she grew her coaching business through one on one client engagements, she decided in 2020, weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic was in full swing, to launch Harper’s Circle. Harper’s Circle is a business group coaching program that began as a bi-weekly goal-oriented venture that quickly pivoted to a business support group to help its participants stay afloat during the uncertainty of, and especially the early part of, the pandemic.
